Synopsis:
June 10th, 2006 marked the start of a 14 day real-time
event we called the "Gypsy Cab Project." The goal? Uncover and record on hidden
cameras all the things that make urban driving truly unique. Our laboratory? The
new Volkswagen Rabbit - the ultimate city car. The experiment? Take Steve, a guy
who'd never been to New York, put him behind the wheel of a Rabbit dressed like
a taxicab and find out if he could talk 100 people into exchanging city-driving
knowledge for a free ride. What would happen? Who would he pick up? What would
he learn? The answers all lived on gypsycabproject.com, where viewers could
watch a live feed from the gypsy cab, view archived "favorite fares" and read
Steve's daily observations. Part documentary film, part cultural anthropology
research and 100% experimental it was like everything else in New York: totally
unpredictable.
