ANN:Sadaji Yamato is a master of sound who can make sound effects from various everyday
objects. We had Mr. Yamato make sounds that convey an image of a scene from one picture.

MVO:Hmm... These are beautiful waves. I made the sound of waves by laying specially treated
paper in a small cardboard box and then putting in dried red beans. That makes the sound of
quiet waves.

SFX:Sound of waves

MVO:Also, we have a man and a woman walking on a snow-covered beach. I'll make this sound
by wrapping starch in a cloth and rubbing it with my hands.

SFX:Sound of footsteps in the snow

MVO:Hmm... There is a hawk flying in the background. I’ll try to make its cry with a bamboo
whistle.

SFX:Cry of a hawk

MVO:The hair of the woman walking on the beach is flowing. So, there must be a wind. We can
make the sound of the wind by hanging a cotton string from the bottom of a paper cup and
stroking that string.

SFX:Whistle of the wind

ANN:Here are the sounds of this one picture. Listen closely.

SFX: sound of waves, hawk, footsteps in the snow, ship, wind, etc.
