Script in English

MVO1: Hi. Tom Bodett for Motel 6 here, with a DVD edition of my latest commercial. It’s basically the same as my other commercials, just with one of those fancy ‘Director Commentary’ features.
Anyway...for a clean, comfortable room for the lowest price of any national chain, Motel 6 is the only place to... (Fades under)

MVO2: Okay, well, what I was going for in this scene was a sense of childlike innocence, with a subtext of man’s eternal struggle against ennui and stuff. I think I got it.

MVO1: (Fades up) ...plus free local calls, and most locations... (dips under)

MVO2: Funny story here – I planned to use a swing and tilt camera for that line, but our budget was cut. So I improvised with a shoebox and two pounds of bacon.

MVO1: It’s like I always say...
MVO2: Love that.

MVO1: ...life is a bowl of cherries...
MVO2: Hate that.

MVO1: ...and happiness is friendly, courteous service.
MVO2: Producers made me say that.

MVO1: I’m Tom Bodett for Motel 6, and we’ll leave the light on for you.

MVO2: I was going to go for a darker ending, something about not leaving the light on, but it didn’t test well.
Brief Explanation

Tom Bodett has been the spokesman for Motel 6 for over 22 years. He was chosen for his homespun, 'common-sensical' wit and his wry, winking delivery. A contributor to National Public Radio's 'All Things Considered' and 'Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me,' Tom is famous for his good-humoured approach to poking fun at life's pretensions.
