Script in English

MVO1: We’re back

MVO2: Dude what is with all these tapes? Do you even watch these? What are these?

MVO1: Some of these, you know people send us advanced copies of the new shows and the one I did like is called uh- My Name is Earl.

MVO2: What is that?

FVO1: Earl?

MVO1: It’s a new comedy and it’s got Jason Lee. You know the movie actor.

MVO2: What is this a TV show?

MVO1: Yea NBC’s got it

MVO2: Oh he’s the guy from all those Kevin Smith movies.

FVO1: Oh he did “Almost Famous”

MVO1: Yes, yes, yes.

MVO2: Jason Lee yeah.

MVO1: OK he’s like this trailer trash ne’r do well.

MVO2: N’er do well- I don’t know what that is

MVO1: It doesn’t matter

FVO1: Ahh It’s like you

MVO2: Oh I get it, I get it

MVO1: No it’s not bad. He’s just a lovable scraggler, and so he decides to make a list of all the things he’s done wrong in his life and redeem himself one by one. It was just, it was different you know it didn’t feel like a sitcom

MVO2: But why? They all. They always say that when they come out with the new shows. You know what I mean?

MVO1: You’re right, you’re right, here’s why it’s different because he’s not your typical lead guy.

MVO2: What like a fish out of water?

MVO1: Yea he’s kind of a schlump but after awhile you really start to love the guy

FVO2: So you’re rooting for him.

MVO1: Exactly

MVO2: So My Name is Earl. When is it on?

MVO1: It’s on NBC

MVO2: Woa-woa-woa

MVO1: Yeah.

MVO2: … and it’s funny!?

MVO1: I know, what are the odds?

MVO2: Okay. I’m interested.

MVO1: So it’s on next Tuesday before the Office… I loved it. And I don’t watch many of these tapes but that’s the beauty of it.

MVO2: All right well then get the rest of them out of here

MVO1: (Laughs)

Brief Explanation

In order to cut through the clutter of radio promotion with screaming announcers, we set out to create a spot that had the natural feel and conversational banter of actual content. It not only snuck up on the listener, but also gave the talent the license to poke fun at the very network they were promoting, furthering the illusion that it was a real morning "drive time" radio show. In doing so, we were still able to get all the pertinent marketing information across in an organic and unconventional, and humorous manner. The show premiered to big ratings, and has become a
big hit for NBC.
