Robert Wilson extends his portrait series for Nike retail.
Avant-garde theater director Robert Wilson
created video portraits to run in Nike retail stores on large-screen, vertical displays this fall. The portraits, intended to inject the traditional two-dimensional portrait with the drama and nuance of film, depict Nike Sportswear clothing as well as BMX-rider Nigel Sylvester, skater Shingo Iwasaki (pictured) and dancer Sofia Boutella.
Bringing his lighting and characterization techniques from stage to screen, Wilson first explored the video portrait format with
VOOM HD Networks
, capturing a range of personas from celebrities like Brad Pitt to animals--the Nike portrait "Sofia Sitting" most closely resembles the style of this definitive series. The VOOM portraits are currently touring museums and gallery spaces internationally.
