The objective for Y&R Auckland was to convince people to donate money by letting them know what the Breast Cancer Research Trust wants to give every woman: a life well lived.The longer you live, the more you have to look back on when your life ends. We told this story by watching an older woman pass away, surrounded by her family and her memories. Sweet Honey in the Rock donated a beautiful soundtrack, and the ad led to a simple summation of our client’s reason for being: We want more women to die of old age.

Brief: The Peruvian League of fight against cancer, asks us to create a campaign for the no-smoker day in which we had to emphasis the damage that a person who smokes causes on his family, friends and all the people around him.


Idea: Using 15000 cigarette butts, glued together one by one in an outdoor palel, level to the sidewalk, we dramatized the treat that cigarettes represent for a non-smoking person, in this case, a little girl.


A month and a half before the campaign, with the help of many volunteers, we were able to gather 15,000 cigarette butts. An artist was in charge of pasting them together and to maintain the essence if the original idea, he painted the little girl in oit painting.

The Dutch Cancer Society (KWF Kankerbestrijding) decided in August 2008 to no longer advise women to perform monthly breast self-examinations. This decision was reached in light of research revealing that breast self-examinations neither lead to earlier detection of breast cancer nor to lower mortality rates due to this illness. It has now also become clear that there are disadvantages connected with self-examination. For example, studies show that women who regularly perform self-examinations undergo (unnecessary) surgical breast procedures more often. It is, however, ultimately up to each individual woman to decide whether to perform breast self-examinations.

The month of October has now been focused on breast cancer for several years in a row. The Pink Ribbon magazine was launched within this context in 2004. All the proceeds of this publication go to the breast cancer foundation. Mercedes-Benz placed a 1/1 advertisement in this magazine again this year. Just like last year’s placement, this advertisement focuses on the correlation between breast cancer research and the research that Mercedes continually conducts to make its cars safer for people.

The theme of this year’s advertisement is ‘self-examination is good, but examination by experts is better’.

Brain Cancer is a leading cause of cancer death in adults aged 20-39, so particularly affecting young parents – and in turn, the children and families who live through the loss of their loved one.

The film created by DDB Sydney and Filmgraphics shows the heartache of a mother knowing she won’t live long enough to be with her baby daughter as she grows older. The insight ‘We don’t know what causes brain cancer, but we do know what it affects.’

portrays the emotionally distressing reality for those diagnosed with Brain Cancer. The more funds that are raised, the more the Cure For Life Foundation can do to help find a cure for this terrible condition.
