Google and Nokia have been engaged in R&D for real-time locating and tracking service, Indoor Navigation, to be available within a shopping mall or a store. The emart Sale Navigation project proves a new possibility for indoor navigation with a distinctive approach and VLC technology. Communication through VLC, in particular, is environment-friendly and efficient as the existing LED lightings of the stores are easily utilized. Simply transmitters are to be installed onto the LED lightings, which will communicate with smart devices of the shoppers. And unlike Wifi, VLC does not fail in communication performance despite explosive traffic increase. Moreover emart Sale Navigation is a significant accomplishment in that VLC is actually applied to stores of the retail business for the first time in the world.
