Describe the brief from the client
Art4Aids is a non-profit initiative, which holds art exhibitions to raise funds for local underprivileged schools. Our goal was to create a logo that included elements of art in a simple, impactful and instantly recognisable way.

Describe the challenges and key objectives
The objective was to design a logo that could be used effectively on posters. By using the previous exhibition posters, each poster was used as an evolving artwork by silk-screening the next exhibition’s artwork over it, creating unique and layered art pieces. It was therefore very important that the logo remained impactful and clear no matter how busy the poster became.

Describe how you arrived at the final design
Using easily recognisable elements of art, as well as a double letter ‘A’, we arrived at a bold logo that would still stand out against the rest of the poster. Our logo also has a dual function in that it represents art on two levels, both the visual arts (sculpture, painting, drawing) and the written word (poetry and creative writing).

Give some indication of how successful the outcome was in the market
Four successful exhibitions were held in Johannesburg, raising funds to the value of R200 000.
