Describe the brief from the client
"The advertising & film industry is a big CO2 contributor and most energy consuming creative industry on earth"- Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research.
To meet our clients' growing demand for sustainability, BBDO Proximity (Germany's biggest advertising agency) started a drive to become a more CO2 friendly agency. One of the first activities in this drive was the successful launch of 'Cut CO2! The Carbon Film Quote: The world’s first TV commercial budget estimator with an integrated carbon calculator. An intelligent tool that for the first time allows the ad industry to plan more CO2 effective productions without compromising quality.
Describe the challenges and key objectives
The design of the initiative needed to provide a user-friendly, simple and easy access into the highly complex, digital and scientific matter of calculating the CO2 balance of every part in the commercial production process. The design had to work for agency people, production companies and clients alike.
Describe how you arrived at the final design
Simple icons seemed to best translate the global objectives of the initiative Cut CO2! The Carbon Film Quote.
Give some indication of how successful the outcome was in the market
The idea and software behind the carbon film quote started with a small round table PR-event that spread through social media, and grew into an unstoppable world wide movement and was quickly picked up and endorsed by Procter&Gamble, Greenpeace, by the AICP, the BBC, South by Southwest); the Product Carbon Footprint World Summit, the Berlin Film Festival, the Producers Guild of America, Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research; the German Producers Association, and literally dozens of leading organisations from all over the world.
