Describe the brief from the client
Our agency (also the client in this instance) was asked to exhibit alongside fellow South African Creatives and Designers at the annual Toffie Pop Culture Festival in Cape Town, South Africa. (Toffie Pop showcases the best in international Pop Culture and Design with an audience drawn from ticket holders and peers in the South African Creative industry.) Strategically the exhibition was a platform for our agency to flex our creative muscles and showcase our agency’s creative ability to a like-minded audience at renowned design festival.

Describe the challenges and key objectives
The main objective of the execution was to stand out amongst the other exhibitors. We were all given a standard table as a display surface. Since our agency is named after a football club, we decided to do away with the conventional exhibition surface and to customize our space with a branded foosball table instead. (Football is integral part of our agency culture: our business cards are player cards; our boardroom is called The Stadium; and our bathrooms are decorated to look like locker rooms.)

Describe how you arrived at the final design
Once we had broken the mould of the standard table, we took the idea further by altering the playing field one would normally expect to see in a foosball table. Our table’s 22 hand-painted players all face the same way; they wear civvies instead of a football uniform; and they are of varied ages, race & gender.

Give some indication of how successful the outcome was in the market
The piece had immediate standout value and showcased the agency’s ability to think outside the box and deliver a unique and relevant creative solution. Exhibition visitors were delighted and amused by the table with its customized football players. The customized players truly represent the make up of our agency as well as that of our dynamic South African culture. Our team members are a ‘united’ group, whilst remaining individuals - capable of amazing things when we work together as a team.
