Describe the challenges and key objectives
Every year, ZDF publishes its financial report from the year before last. In 2009 the task was to design the financial report for 2007. With a focus on the channel’s core competence: moving images.

Design ZDF’s financial report. Convey that ZDF – one of Germany’s two leading public broadcasters – is a modern company with a core competence in moving images.

Describe how you arrived at the final design
The Financial Report is the first annual report ever to be published as a film in the form of the final credits. The viewer can watch the results of the business year like at the end of a movie. They can relax like when they’re watching television and review the achievements of the fiscal year. The report is available to the general public online from the ZDF-Mediathek in the section for money and consumer issues. The individual items are structured using stylised elements of an abacus – adapting aspects from the world of business for the design.

Give some indication of how successful the outcome was in the market
60% more people watched the film than downloaded the normal PDF version.
