Describe the brief from the client
Iggesund Paperboard belongs to the Holmen Group whose business is based on natural and renewable raw materials that come from the forest. Holmen Group is a leading manufacturer of high quality virgin fibre paperboard for use in packaging and graphics industries.
Iggesund Paperboard wanted a new design for their annual Christmas card to celebrate their quality product. The paperboard should speak for itself.

Describe the challenges and key objectives
When Iggesund Paperboard asked us to design their Christmas card, we set ourselves a triple challenge:
- Demonstrate the undisputed superiority of paper to communicate the warmth of Christmas
- Demonstrate the commitment of a leading paper brand to sustainability
- Evoke the Swedish identity of the brand while remaining universal

Describe how you arrived at the final design
We transformed the classic and traditional idea of a Christmas card into something more.
The result is the 2011 Iggesund Christmas card. Delivered flat, the card can easily be transformed into a 3D lampshade thanks to an inventive folding system. A Swedish-inspired pattern envelops a candle or L.E.D, allowing its light to shine through and playfully cast shadows spelling the company’s name.

Give some indication of how successful the outcome was in the market
In a world of digital Christmas wishes, Swedish paperboard manufacturer, Iggesund, asked us to develop a Christmas card that celebrates the magic of Christmas, like no email card could ever do.
Undeniably sustainable: not only from a conception, but also from a usage point of view – a card that will not be put in the trash (real or virtual) right after reading.
Truly magical: transforming a flat piece of paper into a 3D light object, which expresses the warmth of Christmas better than the most sophisticated computer screen.
