Come up with something that’ll make our creative people feel proud of everything they create, even if the client doesn’t buy it.

Describe the challenges and key objectives
In any agency, great work dies. It’s disappointing and it can cause creative people to lose heart. Our challenge was to create something that might soften the blow of professional setback, learn from our failures and talk about the virtue of great creative thinking.

Describe how you arrived at the final design
We created Valhalla, an annual quasi-pagan festival, with a very special invitation. Everyone in the agency received 3 test tubes, containing the creative department’s blood, sweat and tears. This formed the invitation to Valhalla night, where we celebrated the work that died and then burnt the lot, down by the river in a filthy send off to the great design gods in the sky!

Give some indication of how successful the outcome was in the market
Attendance was 100%, generating notoriety across 20 different offices and studios in the agency network. It’s now an annual institution, taking place every year in the London studio. It’s also cathartic to put the skirmishes of the past to rest with a drink inside us.
