Describe the brief from the client
For the Taipei World Design Expo, the client asked Paprika to create and design a stand and identity program – including an original brochure – that publicized the 2017 ‘World Summit of Design, Architecture and Planning’ that will be held in Montreal.
Describe the challenges and key objectives
A major event, like the Taipei World Design Expo, was a way we could both position and promote the 2017 ‘World Summit of Design, Architecture and Planning’ in our home city of Montreal. That led us to fashion a strikingly original brochure showing a sizable range of our city’s great talents. One key was to include, as much as possible, the design, architecture and planning projects showcased by the installation.
Describe how you arrived at the final design
Some of Montreal’s best-known icons inspired us: construction sites and traffic cones. The orange (traffic cones) and ‘Interstate’ font (mainly used for road signs) were natural outcomes. Because the brochure was to be handed out during the 2011 Taipei World Design Expo, we gave a nod to our Asian friends with folded inserts.
Give some indication of how successful the outcome was in the market
We were enormously successful. We attracted more than 100,000 visitors from around the world. So far, the brochure has won 3 graphic design awards.
