Describe the brief from the client
The quality of life in the densely populated Rhine-Main region is very high, with a wide range of natural spaces available on the doorstep for relaxation or leisure. Yet while Frankfurt Rhine-Main is a regular top 10 performer in international rankings, the opportunities are frequently undervalued and under-used locally. The opening of a new circular trail in the Rhine-Main Regional Park (September 2011) provided an opportunity to communicate this attractive environment to city dwellers too.

The new discovery trail connects the most attractive destinations all around Frankfurt. A grand expression of invitation! But how can it touch the city dwellers?

Describe how you arrived at the final design
To help people discover their regional park, the park comes to the people’s view right into Frankfurt city centre. On Frankfurt’s ’Rossmarkt’, 16 observation lookouts offer ‘A Good Outlook All Round’ – an overview of Frankfurt’s surroundings. As iconographic ambassadors from the countryside, the outlooks provide surprising, playful impressions, and echo the diversity of the experiences on offer along the trail. The exhibition makes the Regional Park and the trail visible, and brings them to the target audience of city dwellers, commuters, tourists and transit visitors in a location where the city’s surroundings are seldom seen or felt.

Give some indication of how successful the outcome was in the market
The following weekend, more than 20,000 Frankfurt citizens set out to discover for themselves, the Regional Park; many of them for the first time.
