Describe the challenges and key objectives
The communication needs were to diffuse the event for the attending audience, present the programme and the curatorial texts, give a short description of who is participating, with samples of their work along with institutional information. The piece should emphasise at the same time the idea of connection, the exchange and the multiplicity of graphic expressions in both Brazil and France in a balanced, efficient and interactive way. It should be bi-lingual and both countries and their participant groups should be treated equally. It should be a low-cost big-run piece of communication due to budget and environmental reasons.

Describe the brief from the client
Create a folder/poster/catalogue as part of the identity system of the event that represented Graphic Design in the "Year France-Brasil 2009". "Connexions/Conexões" was conceived around the idea of "graphisme d'auteur" (or "authoral graphic design"), gathering 10 new talents from Brazil and 10 from France in a 800m2 exhibition/installation at SESC Pompeia-S.Paulo along with a series of workshops, lectures and creative encounters.

Describe how you arrived at the final design
In order to emphasise the hands-on purpose of the collateral events and the experimental attitude of the work presented in the show, a hybrid 'do-it-yourself' poster/folder/catalogue was designed as a big-sized bound block of unfolded pages. Each sheet of printed paper after being ripped-off from the block could stand along as a poster or be folded down to a 17x23cm folder. Folding instructions were supplied in the piece and the audience invited to make their own booklet to take away reinforcing the idea of process rather than the final product. Colours and graphic elements follow the original silkscreen poster identity.

Give some indication of how successful the outcome was in the market
It had a big response from the public and was a very successful interactive piece for all audiences, approaching the public and artists through a playful but informative piece of graphics. Designer and SESC-SP received several spontaneous emails and positive comments.
