Describe the challenges and key objectives
The monoface typeface needed to accommodate over 300 glyphs and international diacritic marks for European use. These diacritic marks needed to respect the tight space parameters of the letterboard.

Describe the brief from the client
To win the World Cup! 1. Supporter typeface was created for England’s bid to host the World Cup in 2018 or 2022. ‘England United The World Invited’ had to bring our diverse nation together, showing our affection for football. 2. Supporting campaign activities both home required a typeface for varying scales, media, languages and scripts.

Describe how you arrived at the final design
Inspired by traditional football shirt lettering, terrace seat mosaics & LED scoreboards, Supporter is a monospace display typeface with 300+ glyphs in 3 styles; Home, Away & Line. Idiosyncratic English flavour and bold solidarity build an authentic feel. The characters crowd together to show strength in numbers, stacking to create layout, pattern and imagery.

Give some indication of how successful the outcome was in the market
It has been adopted by a number of European countries beyond England in supportive campaigns.
