Describe the brief from the client
NHN (Next Human Network) Corporation is Korea’s premier internet company, providing databases and information. NHN operates the world’s fifth largest search portal ‘NAVER’ and game portal ‘HANGAME’ providing portals, search and games.

Describe the challenges and key objectives
NHN, Korea’s largest web service provider, which was established just ten years ago, wanted its identity to be a solid concept, integrated with its employees and clients in their daily lives, not an icon associating with a specific idea, shape, or colour. NHN needed a whole new approach to maintain its philosophy and identity – a multi-point integrated branding system.

Describe how you arrived at the final design
In order to come up with the final design, NHN defined its mission and essence in a single word – CONNECT. Ironically, even without a special symbol, separating the lines of N,H, and N, signified the concept of connection with the single stroke of the letters NHN.

‘CONNECT’ signifies the interaction among people, information, and even time. Clients can experience this philosophy in daily operations. All designs on ID cards, envelope, annual report and office interior design are carefully intended to reflect this concept.

Give some indication of how successful the outcome was in the market
NHN’s philosophy of connecting people, information, and the past and present, has been applied to the designs on basic items such as ID cards, business cards, websites and annual reporst as well as the spatial design concept of a newly constructed company building. Now NHN has become a reliable and friendly company by allowing the public to experience NHN as a unique and natural culture.
