Media placement: Interactive Installation - EGGER Truck - 15 February 2011

Describe the brief from the client
The interactive installation "Material Archive" was developed for a mobile showroom, the "EGGER European Truck" to show how to combine interior design, timber construction and furniture building.

Describe the challenges and key objectives
To present the huge product range and its applications, a mixed reality media installation seemed to be the perfect choice to provide an audience with fast and easy access to all notable information. The 3D software application shows two fully rendered architectual environments. These buildings are virtually constructed completely with EGGER materials. As the target group prefers haptic applications, the media installations come with an archive of sample materials and a small action figure to navigate through the 3D house. All objects have individual visual markers. The user can explore the house and find informations about materials, products and applications in a playful way.

Describe how you arrived at the final design
The full installation is made up of two main components: a big 50 inch flat screen hanging on the wall, and the interaction table which is the main interface. Built into the table are a beamer and an infrared camera. The beamer projects images (i.e. floor plan) on the glass plate, which is the action surface for the users. When a user grabs the figure or sample to navigate the interface, the marker is recognized by the infrared camera. The specific position of the object on the table is recognised and all movements and interactions are displayed on the flat screen.

Give some indication of how successful the outcome was in the market
The interactive installation "Material Archive" is part of the EGGER European Truck. The roadshow started in Februrary 2011 and will travel all over Europe until December 2014. The first trainings started in Romania and the visitors are impressed by the highly entertaining and yet informing concept of the truck.
