Brief: Get people in major U.S. cities to realize and react to the scale of environmental destruction in faraway places around the world. Solution: Deliver messages comparing the environmental crisis to a crisis Americans could really feel: the economic recession of early 2009. The comparison hit harder because of the media: the vacant city storefronts of shops that had gone out of business. Messages were posted in store windows of business that had closed because of the economy in the business districts of San Francisco, New York and Washington, D.C.
