Ambient Execution Description
Puccini composed the opera Madame Butterfly over a hundred years ago. The story takes place in Japan. Folkoperan has chosen to move the setting to the present, in an environment where influences from Japanese pop culture, such as manga, Hello Kitty and Lolita fashion, conflict with established traditions.
We choose to recap the drama of the opera, with a traditional harakiri-dagger and a piece of modern kawaii-style cell phone-jewelry. The dagger also plays a vital part in the opera.
