English Synopsis
1000 mobile phones. 2000 texts. One song. We wanted to create something unique – an original way of playing a piece of classical music. We put together a production team and found our music producer named Jol – who was just as excited about the experiment as we were. The idea was simply to use a collection of mobile phones with TXT alerts that – when received in the sequence – created a symphony : Tchaikovsky's 1812 overture. It took 53 different ringtone alerts. Timed to imperfection. After a lot of practice it actually worked and Symphonia is the result. It was all done for real in real time with the help of Vodafone’s technical wizards and documented in two on-line films (Put you tube links to docos here here), which combined to communicate the amazing things you can do with Vodafone and the speed of the network.
