Brief Explanation
For the last decade, Volvo on Call has simply been an emergency roadside assistance service.
Volvo wanted to develop the existing service further.
Starting with the driver, we identified that many situations connected to driving a car actually occur in other places. With a user problem-solving mindset, we set out to create a service that let you control your car from where ever you are.
The Volvo on Call applications for iPhone and Android put the car's dashboard and console in your pocket.
More and more manufacturers have released mobile applications for their roadside assistance service. Where the Volvo on Call app stands apart is on its features and interface, that are strongly tied to vehicle ownership insights. Some of these include:
The Window & Door Status Check and Remote Door Lock for when you walk away from the car, wonder if you locked up behind you and then cannot shake that thought.
GPS Locator and Honk & Blink for when you forget where you parked at the mall.
Trip Information and Dashboard Warnings to remind you to bring the fuse or bulb in from the garage before you get into the car.
A Driving Journal that lets you easily and quickly expense travel with your accountant or finance dept with spreadsheet export sent via email.
A Remote Start Engine Heater to pre-heat the engine in freezing temperatures, saving you from the chilly walk in the nightgown.
The challenge was to make the app fit seemingly into a driver’s real world context while hiding the technical complexity of the systems we built to power it. The answer was a stunning and intuitive interface that brought together all these features. A user feedback survey showed a high level of appreciation from users, scoring an average 8 our of 10.
Since launch, it has become a massive sales talking point, helping dealers upsell the Volvo on Call service to more customers than ever before. 65% of users said the app was highly relevant in their decision to purchase and subscribe to the service.
Sales of the service have also gone into fifth gear. Monthly sales levels have increased by 138% when compared to a pre-launch baseline.
