VO: For the Nickel Film and Video Festival, Andy Jones.

Andy Jones: In the early days of making films in Newfoundland we had to do everything ourselves. We didn’t have plots of course and didn’t have scripts cause those things hadn’t been invented. And, and there were no, no definite articles. You couldn’t say like, the house, you just said house, or a car or a cow. It had to be just cow, house, car. They were poor times. And, ah, but of course they're also there, the kind of film they made was flammable. So, there, it’s dangerous. You had to be very careful, cause they could burst into flames. And, actually, the actors often burst into flames in those days too which was ah – people were different then. People were more emotional. I would say probably 70 to 80 percent of the audience were killed during the actual screenings. 70, 80, maybe, I mean maybe I’m exaggerating. Maybe 68, 70 percent. But a lot of people were killed. I think this, maybe this being the first time this story has been told of how tough it was in the old days. Making films in Newfoundland.
