SFX: Phone ringing.

JOHN: Hello.

KATHY: Hi, is John Boldock in?

JOHN: Yeah, this is John Boldock speaking.

KATHY: Oh, hi John. It’s Kathy calling from Irving’s Cruisin’ to Win contest.

JOHN: Yeah, yeah.

KATHY: I hear that you came in second in the Sea Coast Idol contest.

JOHN: The Sea Coast…I, I don’t know.

KATHY: Oh. Do you remember singing on a stage in front of judges John?

JOHN: It’s the first I heard of it.

KATHY: Huh, oh well. You sound like a lucky guy.

JOHN: I’m a lucky…yeah, I sound like a lucky guy. It’s probably a lucky gimmick. don’t want gettin’ no gimmick.

KATHY: It’s no gimmick.

JOHN: So what do I gotta do?

KATHY: Come on in. You could win big because Irving’s Cruisin’ to Win is back. There are three ways to win. And you don’t even have to sing. Instant win, collect to win, and fill out a ballot to win with big prizes like juice…

JOHN: Juice?

KATHY: Ah ha. Chips, Pepsi. Oh, and Harleys and a Hummer. And also, you might want to try getting on the Sea Coast Idol contest next year.

JOHN: The Sea Coast Idol contest?

KATHY: Yeah.

JOHN: Yeah, okay.

KATHY: Yeah. Do you have the other John Boldock’s phone number?

KATHY: Cruise in to Irving and Cruisin’ to Win. No purchase necessary. See in store for details.

Brief Explanation

Every summer, Irving Oil launches a contest called Cruisin’ To Win for its chain of convenience stores. Our spokesperson (Kathy), calls real people who have almost made it big but didn’t quite get there – whether it’s a beauty contest, a pumpkin growing contest or even a karaoke contest. Kathy encourages them and makes them feel better by turning their attention to the Cruisin’ To Win contest and their potential to finally WIN BIG. Of course, when she says WIN BIG, she means winning chips, water, pop, gum, candy bars – even though the big prizes are Hummers, DVD players, Harleys, etc.
