SFX: Phone dialling

ALBERT: Personal Music.

CREATIVE: Hey Albert, how you doing today man?

ALBERT: Doing great man?

CREATIVE: Hey listen, uh, I have a TV ad for buttery spread

ALBERT: Uh huh...

CREATIVE: .and the music we need..umm, it needs to sound very organic, but electronic-like at
the same time.

SFX: Sound of someone writing something down


CREATIVE: See, the product is a container. An oval container.


CREATIVE: So uhh, we’re thinking that it would be great if the tempo…

ALBERT: Uh huh…

CREATIVE: or whatever you call it…

ALBERT: Yeah no, tempo.

CREATIVE: um, could be oval… as well… like, you know, to represent the container


CREATIVE: and uhh… beige at the same time. Is that possible?

ALBERT: sure uhh, Absolutely.

CREATIVE: It’s also gotta be funny…mmm… not too cartoony though. Umm… add some
sadness to it.

ALBERT: Ummm...You know what, here. It’s kinda like having a Bavarian uncle and being
made to sit on his lap.

CREATIVE: Yeah, You got me bro. You feeling me now.

ALBERT: All right.

CREATIVE: You got it. You got it.

ALBERT: OK, you know what? I could also add some kind of Linda Evans look

CREATIVE: I like Linda Evans. Like you’re reading my mind!

ALBERT: Um. Let me... Let me work on the piece a bit and I’ll get it to you.

CREATIVE: Awesome man!

As creatives, we sometimes ask for sensations and images to be represented musically. Often our demands are confusing, contradictory or just absurd. The music designer has to be a trustworthy professional, a person who understands you and knows what you mean to say even if you don’t say it clearly.
