Greenpeace, one of the world's leading environmental organizations, has completed 25 years operating in Brazil. Among the activities planned to celebrate this date, the institution has launched a film created by the ad agency Y&R - one of the hundreds of voluntary companies of the institution in the country - to reiterate its mission: acting independently to protect the environment.
Greenpeace is present in 43 countries, on all continents, and has the support of more than four million collaborators worldwide. The organization arrived in Brazil the same year Eco-92 took place in the country, during which representatives from 108 countries came together to debate and decide on measures to reduce environmental degradation and guarantee the existence of future generations.
Since then, Greenpeace has consolidated its presence in Brazil and is currently developing campaigns to protect the Amazon forest and to fight against climate change.
"From the few dozen supporters in 1992, we reached in 2017 65,000 individual donors, 10 volunteer groups in different cities and more than 3 million cyber-activists," says Renato Guimarães, the Engagement Director at Greenpeace Brazil. "It seems like a lot, but we need more people supporting and participating in our initiatives. Each person's support is critical to our independence and to ensure that we can challenge governments and corporations to protect the environment and our lives. "
The film "Happy Birthday" will start to be broadcast this week on TV, Internet and movie theatres. It draws an analogy between a forest fire and birthday candles. At the end of the track, which brings whistles reproducing the tune of "Happy Birthday to You", a blow extinguishes the fire.
