MTV auntie corruption
Much before Anna Hazare began his fast against corruption in India,
Cyrus Oshidar (writer of maalishwala, chai boy and dharti ke laal at
MTV India) wrote this series of spots called 'auntie corruption'. This
is a band of mothers. Ninja moms, who are kicking ass (literally)
against corruption. They have various unique powers. Chotli auntie
fights Kung ku with her braids. Sumo auntie uses her weight and her
huge behind to crush objects - the 'atom bum'. The mother hen is like
yoda. Her hearing is unparalleled, she can fly and probably knows the
5 fingers technique to put the opponent to sleep. We had a series at
hand that had great madness but needed to be produced with serious
intent.
With such dramatic scripts, we decided to descale the humor. Treat it
more like middle class reality, like a low fi trailer of some action
flick. This way the humor had more attitude. It was graphic in a very
plain way.
It was a big scale production for us. 3 days of stunts and non stop
shooting. Will humphris from London shot the spots. We worked with a 2
camera set up and had to train our cast in wire work and action
training hours before the shooting. It was a great learning
experience. A tight budget meant not too many days of stunt rehearsal.
But our aunties did really well and all the blasts and the fights
turned out superb.
