Synopsis:
In honour of the five-year anniversary of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Sandy Hook Promise has launched a thought-provoking new PSA that illustrates how tomorrow's news can be reshaped by today's actions, and reframes the notion that gun violence is unavoidable. The film, 'Tomorrow’s News', was created by BBDO New York and follows the success of last year's "Evan," which has received over 150 million views and helped reshape the conversation on gun violence prevention.
A school shooting is expected tomorrow, but you can help change #TomorrowsNews.
Entry Summary
Sandy Hook Promise is an organization started by the parents of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting, which occurred in Newtown, Connecticut, USA, five years ago. The group believes gun violence is preventable when you know the signs of someone who might become a violent offender.
With 93 people killed daily by guns in the U.S., many feel helpless in the fight against gun violence. So, Sandy Hook Promise wanted to empower students, parents and teachers by telling them they can stop the next shooting if they know the warning signs.
Worth noting is that this film first aired in December, 2017 — two months before the recent, tragic shootings in Parkland, Florida.
Brief Explanation
Our online film, “Tomorrow’s News,” shows a fictitious TV news report about a shooting expected to happen tomorrow. In the film, witnesses, first responders and acquaintances of the shooter all speak about the tragedy in the future tense, to stress the shooting’s preventability.
