FedEx is a multinational courier corporation headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee. The name of the company is an abbreviation of the words Federal and Express. The corporation is known for its overnight shipping service and pioneering a system to track packages.


History of FedEx


Officially FedEx was incorporated in 1997 in Delaware. Until 1973 the company was known as Federal Express. Among its key people you can find Frederick Smith and David J. Bronczek. However, the original history of FedEx started in 1960s in Little Rock, Arkansas. The man who founded it was known as Fred Smith. In 1994 Fedex.com was launched offering online package tracking.

The revenue of FedEx was $50.36 billion in 2016.

The first logo showed the full name of the corporation at a slant. It was placed on blue-and-white background. The current logo has only FedEx name including blue and orange colours. If you look closely at the space between the E and the X, you will see a small arrow hidden there.

Advertising and Interesting Facts


In 2014 FedEx ads budget was $293.9 million.

In 2009 FedEx Express launched a global advertising campaign “FedEx Delivers to a Changing World.” The campaign included five print and online advertisements which ran across the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan and other countries.

Another film-based campaign was focused on internationalisation of enterprises. The commercials were demonstrating the benefits of international expansion for small businesses. The enterprises featured in the ads included a shoe shop, a fabrics company and a hot sauce vendor.

In 1981 they hired a performer John Moschitta Jr for one of the commercials which was cited later by New York as one of the most memorable ads ever.

FedEx was named as one of the top 100 companies to work for in 2013 by Fortune magazine.

Even though the corporation has its own airplanes, it cooperates with other companies such as ASL Airlines Ireland, Empire Airlines, West Air Inc. and others.

FedEx sponsored Denny Hamlin’s No. 11 car at Kobalt Tools 400 and Formula One team McLaren. The company was the title sponsor of the Orange Bowl, played in Miami. FedEx is the Main Sponsor of the UEFA Europa League since 2015.

FedEx is also known for the donation of $250,000 to support the second inauguration of President George W. Bush.
