Land Rover is a British car brand which specialises in FWD vehicles. It used to belong to Jaguar Land Rover. The cars by this manufacturer are a British icon. They have received a lot of awards starting from 1951. Land Rover sales reached 194,000 units in 2009.

History of Land Rover

The history of the company dates back to 1947 when Maurice and Spencer Wilks created the original design of the autos. They started working on their farm in Newborough, Anglesey. In 1978 Land Rover was established as a company.

Today Land Rover brand name belongs to Tata Motors. In 2016 its revenue was £1.6 billion.

Up to 1980s Land Rover has been using a black oval emblem bearing the name of the company. In 1989 the well-known green logo was introduced. It had an oval shape with Land Rover inscription and a white border. The green colour shows that the company is close to nature.

The most popular slogan of the carmaker is “Land Rover. Go beyond”.

Advertising and Interesting Facts

Land Rover’s ads budget was $1.6 million in 2009.

One of the company’s campaigns is known as Land Rover meat. It was a press ad to celebrate the victory of the British & Irish Lions rugby team over Australia. The ads depicted a piece of meat resembling the shape of Australia. It had a tagline “The Lions have been fed.”

Another campaign was “Inferno Downhill Challenge” which included TV commercials, prints and digital variants. It showed that Range Rover Sport was the first production vehicle to drive down an alpine ski course. All the stunts were performed by a professional driver Ben Collins on the Inferno Mürren, the oldest downhill ski race.

The carmaker is interested in polo. They have established Land Rover Polo School which cooperates with Engel & Völkers. Land Rover used to work with BorgWarner using their turbocharging technologies for the vehicles. In addition, BASF Coatings supplies the automotive OEM coatings for the Land Rover plant in England.

Land Rover was granted a Royal Warrant by King George VI in 1951. In 2015 Land Rover won Alg Residual Value Awards. In 2017 the company was awarded “Best Premium Brand” at the Annual Canadian Residual Value Awards.

It is interesting that in 1995 Land Rover produced a hand-made bicycle called the Land Rover APB. In 2005 Land Rover Coffee company was established.
