MTV is an initialism of Music Television. This is an American channel which belongs to Viacom Media Networks. It is headquartered in New York. MTV has numerous sister channels all over the world.

History of MTV

The early history of MTV started in 1977 when Warner Cable and Warner-Amex Satellite Entertainment launched an interactive cable television system named QUBE in Ohio. One of its channels was known as “Sight on Sound.” It showed concert footage and music programs. In 1981 MTV was introduced as a channel. The first video shown was The Buggles’ “Video Killed the Radio Star.” Today MTV ratings are said to be failing systematically because younger viewers shift towards digital media. However, MTV revenue was $6.2 billion in 2015.

The channel’s logo was created by Manhattan Design. The imaginative letter “M” was actually an illustration by Rogoff including spray painted “TV”. The general shape and proportions of this symbol have never been changed. The MTV logo features a hand-drawn typeface.

The most famous slogans of the channel are:
You'll never look at music the same way again.
I want my MTV.
Turn it on, leave it on.
See the music you want to see.
Doodle Doodle Dee, Wubba Wubba Wubba
